Woman killed in Bozeman car accident

A serious auto accident can devastate families and change survivors' lives forever. A tragic example of this is a fatal car accident that happened around 7:30 on a Monday morning in Bozeman. At an hour when people are heading to work and dropping their kids off at school, a 44-year-old woman died and two others were injured, including the woman's seven-year-old son.

The woman driving a Subaru wagon and was proceeding west on Stucky Road in Bozeman. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, she ran a stop sign where Stucky Road meets Cottonwood Road. A 29-year-old Bozeman man in a pickup truck who was driving north on Cottonwood swerved to avoid her but was unable to do so. The Subaru was struck on the driver's side.

Firefighters had to work to free the woman from the wreckage of her car. She was taken to a local hospital but they could do nothing for her; she was declared dead.

The woman's seven-year-old son suffered a serious head injury. The driver of the pickup was also hospitalized; the extent of his injuries was unknown at the time this post was prepared.

When a person sustains serious injury in a car accident they have the right to make a claim for damages against any person whose negligence was a cause of the crash. In a case like this the woman's young son, through his father or a legal guardian, may be able to make a claim against his mothers' automobile insurance policy. If the accident investigation confirms the woman ran a stop sign, this tragic error on her part could be the basis of a negligence claim that might ultimately help provide for her son.
