Motorcyclist, driver injured in Billings head-on collision

When a motorcycle and a passenger car collide the motorcyclist is generally more at risk for serious injury. But the driver of the car doesn't always escape being injured. Recently a violent head-on-collision between a motorcycle and a car in Billings injured both the both the motorcyclist and the car's driver.

According to Billings police, the motorcyclist was speeding as he proceeded west on Wicks Lane at about 9:15 on a Thursday night. At the intersection of Wicks and St. Andrew's Drive, he collided head-on with a 1998 Subaru Legacy that was making a left turn from Wicks onto St. Andrew's.

The motorcyclist, a 35-year-old Billings man, was knocked out. A witness described seeing him lying in a parking lot near the intersection where the bike had come to rest. The motorcycle was a twisted wreck; its front wheel was folded over onto the seat. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries; he was initially listed in critical condition at a local hospital but at the time this post was prepared his condition had been upgraded to serious.

The driver of the car was an 18-year-old woman. She also suffered injuries, although not as serious as the motorcyclist's. She said she never saw the motorcycle before the crash.

If the police allegations of speeding prove to be true, the driver of the Subaru may be able to bring a personal injury lawsuit against the motorcyclist. Any person injured in a car accident caused by negligence on the part of another is entitled to sue the negligent person for damages. Damages that can be recovered include compensation for medical expenses, loss of income and pain and suffering.
