Recovering Compensation For The Injured
in Billings, Montana

What are some symptoms of a traumatic brain injury?

Victims of a head injury often do not realize right away that they may have suffered an injury to the brain. In mild to moderate brain injury cases, symptoms may not appear until days or even weeks after the traumatic event. Montana residents who have been in a car accident or suffered an injury on the job, and parents of children who may have suffered a head injury, should be aware of what symptoms to look out for.

Mild traumatic brain injury symptoms can include a losing consciousness, which can last from a couple of seconds to several minutes. Other victims may not lose consciousness, but may feel confused, disoriented or dazed for a period of time. A headache is another common symptom of mild brain trauma. Others include fatigue, nausea, dizziness and difficulty sleeping.

Brain injuries that are moderate or severe can result in any of the above symptoms, in addition to loss of consciousness for up to several hours and a headache that won't go away or gets worse over time. Nausea, vomiting, seizures and convulsions may also indicate a more severe brain injury. Dilated pupils in one or both eyes are another common symptom of a moderate to severe brain trauma. Slurred speech, extreme confusion and behavioral changes such as aggressiveness or combativeness are other warning signs of serious brain trauma.

Children who have suffered a brain injury may exhibit a change in nursing or eating habits, irritability, constant crying and inconsolability. Depression, changes in sleep patterns or losing interest in favorite activities are other symptoms commonly seen in children.

When a brain injury is caused by another's negligence, victims may have the right to compensation. Consulting a law firm with experience in brain injury cases can be the first step to understanding one's options.
