Three Montana residents killed in head-on crash

| Sep 24, 2015 | Truck Accidents

A head-on collision between a pick-up truck apparently driven by a teenager and a semi-trailer truck has killed three young men and left a fourth in critical condition. As is the case with most car-truck accidents, details on the accident and its cause were not immediately clear.

The pick-up truck was apparently carrying four teenagers. It was heading south on Highway 223 when in crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a semi. The two vehicles collided head on. The accident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. A state trooper at the scene said that the driver of the semi told him that the pickup truck crossed over the centerline. The speed of the vehicles was either unknown or not disclosed by the police. The road makes a right hand curve at the site of the accident, and the driver of the pickup may have failed to see the turn in time. Of course, any final conclusions about the cause of the accident must await the outcome of the police investigation.

Three of the four young men in the pickup were killed instantly, and the fourth young man was reported to be in critical condition at a nearby hospital. The driver of the semi was reported to have received only non-life threatening injuries. Two of the deceased boys appear to have been related, perhaps as brothers.

The lives of several families have been severely disrupted by this tragedy. The three dead youths are lost to their families and friends forever, and the injured teenager could easily have suffered disabling or disfiguring injuries. The emotional injuries may be irreparable. The law cannot make up for these losses, but it can offer compensation to the victims depending upon the causes of the accident. Anyone who has suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one in similar circumstances may want to explore the options for recovering damages for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
