Two injured in school bus accident at Billings Senior High

Whenever a school bus is involved in an accident, the safety of the students on the bus is a paramount concern. In a recent collision involving two school buses and two automobiles just outside Billings Senior High, none of the students on the two buses were hurt. Unfortunately, two occupants of the cars were injured and taken to area hospitals. Billings Police indicated their injuries were not life-threatening,

The collision occurred just after 3 p.m. in front of the high school, near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Fifth Street West. According to the Billings Police Department, one of the buses had just taken its passengers on board and was leaving the school when it accelerated suddenly and crashed into two cars and another school bus. The reason for the sudden acceleration was not known.

The bus driver received a citation for careless driving. A police spokesperson said there was no indication alcohol was a factor in the collision.

When a negligent driver causes an accident, those who are injured have the right to recover damages in a personal injury lawsuit. The injured parties can seek compensation for their pain and suffering, as well as reimbursement for medical expenses and lost income. The negligent driver's insurance company will be obligated to pay any damages up to the limits of the policy. When the negligent individual was driving in connection with their job, the employer can also be held liable under the legal doctrine of "respondeat superior," which holds employers responsible for the negligence of employees acting in the course of their employment.
