Have millennial drivers earned their bad reputation?

Most Montana drivers probably have areas in which they could improve their performance behind the wheel, but recent research indicates that motorists who fall within one particular age group have more improvements to make than others. Millennial drivers have long been plagued by rumors of carelessness and recklessness behind the wheel, and it appears that their poor reputation is, in fact, deserved.

According to USA Today, millennial drivers may be even more of a threat to you than you might initially think. Why? A recent study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and involving more than 2,500 motorists revealed some sobering, if not entirely surprising, statistics about millennials and their driving habits.

Among the alarming findings associated with the survey is the fact that many millennial drivers recognize that certain driving behaviors are unsafe, but they continue to do them anyway. For example, while more than 78 percent of millennial drivers surveyed stated that reading emails or text messages while driving was unacceptable, more than 40 percent of them admitted to doing exactly that within the last 30 days.

Furthermore, more than 92 percent of drivers surveyed said that running a red light when they could have easily stopped was completely unacceptable, but more than 35 percent also admitted to doing so within the last month. Additionally, millennial motorists acknowledged sending or typing electronic communications while driving nearly twice as often as motorists across other age groups.

While these statistics about millennial drivers are informative, this information is not a substitute for legal advice.
