Montana residents know all about winter driving. For most of us, experience has taught how a vehicle performs in different road conditions, and most of us know when to slow down and take it easy. But sometimes a car accident occurs that might have been prevented had a driver been more careful on an icy road. One such accident took place recently in Kalispell, and sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries.
The accident took place around 5 o’clock in the afternoon when a Chevy Avalanche, driving east on Montana Highway 35, went out of control on the ice near the Flathead River Bridge. The out-of-control Chevy collided with a Nissan Altima. The Chevy rolled onto its side due to the force of the collision.
The two occupants of the Nissan, as well as the passenger in the Chevy, had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency responders. They were transported to Kalispell Regional Hospital. A news report indicates they were placed in the intensive care unit. The driver of the Chevy was not seriously hurt.
When a driver fails to take road conditions into account, and drives too fast on an icy road, that is negligence. Negligence is the failure to act with reasonable care under the circumstances.
