head-on collision at highway speeds is a violent event that often results in serious injury or death. Tragically, this was the outcome of an auto accident that occurred recently on U.S. Highway 93 northwest of Whitefish. A 23-year-old woman from Montana died and two other people were injured when their vehicles collided head-on.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the car accident occurred around noon near the highway’s intersection with Farm to Market Road. A black Mazda 6 containing a Canadian man and woman was driving southbound about a mile from the intersection. The driver of the Mazda lost control of the car as he attempted to pull over on the right shoulder. He overcorrected, which caused the car to fishtail.
The Mazda the crossed the centerline of the highway into opposing traffic. It collided with a Honda Accord driven by the Montana woman. The impact caused the Honda to roll over; it came to rest in a nearby ditch. The woman was trapped in her car and died at the scene.
The two people in the Mazda were transported to a hospital in Kalispell. The driver was taken by ambulance and the passenger by helicopter.
