Learn More About Our Attorney Shane D. Colton, Esq.

A Fifth-Generation Montanan Fighting for Montana Families

Shane Colton is a Billings-based personal injury lawyer whose Montana roots run five generations. Raised in Denton, a small farm and ranch community in Central Montana, Shane grew up understanding the values that define Montana life: hard work, integrity, and looking out for your neighbors.

For over two decades, Shane has dedicated his career to representing injured Montanans against insurance companies. He knows that when a hardworking family is devastated by a serious accident, they deserve an attorney who understands their way of life and will fight relentlessly on their behalf.

Shane earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Montana State University in 1991, graduating with honors. While maintaining his lifelong allegiance to the Bobcats, he attended law school at the University of Montana, graduating in 1996.

During law school, Shane was recognized for both academic excellence and exceptional leadership, receiving the prestigious Balfour Fellowship and the Karl Karlberg Memorial Scholarship.

Shane is admitted to practice before all Montana State Courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana. He maintains active membership in the American Association for Justice and the Montana Trial Lawyers Association.

Recognized Excellence in Personal Injury Law

Shane has been selected to Super Lawyers every year from 2018 to the present. Super Lawyers is an exclusive recognition reserved for top-rated attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill, experience, and results in their practice areas.

His practice focuses entirely on litigation, representing clients in personal injury claims, wrongful death cases, motor vehicle accidents, and medical malpractice. Every case Shane takes reflects his commitment to securing justice and fair compensation for Montana families facing their most difficult moments.

A Lifetime Commitment to Montana's Land and People

Shane's dedication to Montana extends far beyond the courtroom. As an avid outdoorsman and committed conservationist, he served over twelve years on Montana's Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission under two governors, including three years as chairman.

His conservation work includes years of advocacy for the Big Horn River, where he helped protect the river, its wildlife, and the businesses and anglers who depend on it from threats posed by outside interests. Shane worked alongside U.S. Senators and countless advocates to prevent environmental damage being facilitated by the Bureau of Reclamation and special interest groups.

Shane and his wife Gina, a licensed clinical social worker, have volunteered countless hours serving on the boards of organizations that strengthen Montana communities, including Montana Land Reliance, Montana Conservation Corps, CASA of Yellowstone County, Tumbleweed, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Yellowstone County, and Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley.

When she's not out bird hunting, Shane’s English Setter, Ridley, serves as the official office greeter, a title she holds enthusiastically.
