A violent car collision disturbed the peace of a Billings residential neighborhood and sent two people to the hospital about a week ago. Billings Police say speed and alcohol were involved, and they are investigating it as a drunk driving accident.
The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at the intersection of Clark Avenue and 8th Street West. According to a news report, a 27-year-old woman was driving a red car westbound at high speed when she blew through a stop sign and collided with a silver Olds Alero in the intersection. The force of the collision flipped the red car over on its back; it ended up in that position about 50 feet from the point of impact.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 46-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Healthcare. Fortunately, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The woman in the red car was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
When a person suffers serious injury in a car accident caused by a negligent driver, they have the right to bring a personal injury claim against that driver. If the negligent driver was properly insured, their insurance company will pay any damages up to the policy limits. If the driver was uninsured, or if their liability coverage is insufficient to cover all the damages, the injured victim can make a claim against the uninsured/underinsured coverage of their own automobile policy. Damages that can be recovered include medical expenses, lost wages and other out-of-pocket losses, as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
